Campeonato Paranaense, which has been contested since 1915, is the football league of the state of Paraná, Brazil. The "Série Ouro", literally the Golden Series, are the highest division of the league.
Contents |
In the Série Ouro, the teams are divided into two groups of eight.
In the first stage, a double round-robin is played, in which all teams from one group play home-and-away games against all teams within the group. For the second stage, knock-out home-and-away playoffs are played with the top 4 teams of each group (1st place x 4th place, 2nd place x 3rd place). The winner of the second stage is crowned the champion and the teams at the bottom of each group of the first stage are relegated.
As in any other Brazilian soccer competitions, the format is not consistent and may change from year to year.
